The "Arca-Swiss Style" Quick-Release Geometry The "Arca-Swiss Style" Quick-Release Geometry refers to the open-cavity dovetail quick-release system developed decades ago by Arca-Swiss for use with their Monoball ball heads and large format cameras. After the extreme popularity of the Arca-Swiss B-1 ball head in the 1990s, other companies began manufacturing custom camera-body and lens plates using this geometry. Since then, this geometry has become the industry standard for high-end tripod heads (particularly in the nature photography industry). The figure below shows the basic dimensions of the dovetail used in this system:

The Wimberley Head Version II, Sidekick, and other clamps use this quick-release system, so any lens that you wish to connect to our heads must be equipped with an Arca-Swiss style lens plate or replacement foot. Manufacturers that use the Arca-Swiss Style Quick-Release Geometry include:

Single-Arm Setup

F-2 Macro Bracket ($169.00)

This bracket consists of modules M-1 & M-4.
The articulating arm on this bracket is comprised of two double ball and socket links that lock positively and offer a great range of flash positions. The bracket attaches quickly to your lens or camera body plate with a narrow Arca-Swiss style quick-release.

Click here to make sure that your existing plates are long enough accommodate this bracket.

Adding the M-8 Perpendicular Plate (see bottom of this page) makes it more convenient to use this bracket on your camera body.

Dual-Arm Setup for Collared Lenses

In order to use two flashes on a collared lens, attach two F-2 Macro Brackets to your lens. It is necessary to use a Wimberley lens plate on your lens to ensure that you will be able to attach both brackets to the lens plate. Our double-dovetail plates allow you to attach one bracket to the top surface of the plate, and one to the bottom surface.

Dual-Arm Setup for Camera Bodies

In order to use two flashes on your camera body, you must first attach the M-8 Perpendicular Plate (see bottom on this page). This gives you a dovetail that is large enough and oriented in the proper direction to accept multiple flash brackets. Attach two F-2 Macro Brackets to the Perpendicular Plate to complete the setup.

Module 8 - M-8 Perpendicular Plate ($85.00)

The Module 8 allows you to attach your camera body to the Wimberley Head.

This module allows you to attach the F-1 Telephoto Bracket or multiple F-2 Macro Brackets to your camera body.

It is also useful as a small macro slider for making small forward-backward adjustments for macro photography and for attaching a camera body, with small lens, to the Wimberley Head.

The M-8 Perpendicular Plate attaches to the Arca-Swiss style plate on your camera body. It gives you a dovetail plate that is parallel to the axis of the lens.
